Tim Burton's Robot Boy - with a splash of colour by me

I loved drawing Tim Burton’s Robot Boy the first time around, so this time I experimented with taking his sketch and exploring with water colour.

The zombies and monsters theme has really struck a chord with me.

From the creature series an untitled Tim Burton sketch. I've added the heart and stick pins and call her the Voodoo Girl Spider

The theme continues as I copy my way through Tim Burton novels with gusto.

Tim Burton's self portrait

Does that make any sense? If Tim Burton did this piece as a self portrait then can I call my drawing of it, or copying it basically as a tribute to the tribute?

Are self portraits really self tributes?

Who really cares, here is  a picture of Tim Burton I drew from one of his own portraits.

Tim Burton's Staring Girl - she stares straight ahead

See what happens when you give me a box of pretty pencils that turn into magical waterpaints when you add water?

The Tim Burton tribute continues with a fever for drawing I haven’t had in years.

Yesterday I picked up a gorgeous set of Derwent Watercolour pencils and have continued to try copy the amazing drawings of Tim Burton from a his book ‘ The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories’.

I haven’t enjoyed myself this much since I believed in Christmas.

A collection of sketches I completed using Staedtler graphite pencils 2B, 4B & 6B plus Sharpie permanent markers from Costco.

I couldn’t believe Costco had packets of 24 Sharpies and they were only $20! I had to use them on something so I started a tribute in pencil and sharpie to Tim Burton and his book called The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories.

Robot Boy

It wasn't human at all, it was Robot Boy!

Staring Girl

I once knew a girl who would just stand there and stare.

At anyone or anything she seemed not to care

She'd stare at the sky

She'd stare at the sky

She'd stare at the ground.

She'd stare at the ground.

Inspired by screaming chinese lady

I went to the markets for some fresh Ochra, inspired by spending a week with my Dad and his amazing cooking.

There was a Chinese lady at the markets, 4 foot tall and quite non descript. She wasn’t very animated, well dressed, wearing any make up or very excited about living. In fact she looked as if the life had been completely been sucked out of her. Except she was screaming at the top of her lungs.

I think she had been doing the same thing, standing at the same markets, selling the same products so she could feed her family all of her life. The sight was depressing.

But she was screaming really quite loudly for a smallish bland lady. She only screamed one word, over and over and over again. I know that is a lot of overs.

Sell! Sell! Sell!

Repeatedly for about 20 sells I counted. Then a short pause for breath. Then it started again. It penetrated my very pysche. So much so that when I got home and took of my helmet I started yelling Sell! sell! Sell! SEll! Until my partner thought I had clearly gone quite loopy.

I tried to draw it.

Cartoon strip – first take – Cloud Consumption

This is my first ever cartoon strip!

I’m quite unashamedly proud of how it turned out.

It was a sketch that I then converted using the Pen tool in Illustrator and did the most basic of layouts in Comic Life to get those wicked little cartoon bubbles and groovy fonts.

Yay me!
