email-virusMy web-mail service got pinged overnight by an oldie but a goodie – the UPS tracking scam email.

It went something like this:

Hello!

Unfortunately we were not able to deliver the package sent on the 1st of June in time because the recipient’s address is not correct.

Please print out the invoice copy attached and collect the package at our office.

Your United Parcel Service of America

The exclamation mark was what first set of alarm bells; who says hello with an exclamation in email?  This was followed by the lack of personal detail; UPS always address you by name if it is official and this was then followed by the attached zip file which looked like it had an exe file inserted which is very peculiar.

I went over to my favourite hoax email site Hoax Slayer but found nothing so did a quick Googley search and found this friendly warning on a blog called Kenkai which seems to be the exact same thing.

Hence my quick post this morning to warn you in case some Trojan worm found its way into my web-mail and sent them same thing to my contacts and hit you up.

Don’t open the attachement. Hit Shift & Delete it for good.

Never trust these things implicitly.

If in doubt, there is probably a dam good reason and rather than risk it, visit Hoax Slayer or Google the title of your suspicious email BEFORE you open the sucker.

It always seems to happen to me when I am waiting for something from UPS and eBay and when I am particularly vulnerable. Dam you Trojan wormy emaily virusy hoaxey bastards! Is Big Brother watching?

Piss off!
