Platform action game – final submission assignment 3: Howlyland

The brief for Assignment 3 was to create a working prototype of an action game.

I chose to do the classic platform type action game inspired by years of growing up in fish and chip shops with cocktail tabletop machines and of course, Super Mario.

The text provided, ActionScript 3.0 Game Programming University, provided working script and example games, and the job was to modify them to create an action game that could link in with the original brief of a puzzle game in a 12 week Unit. This forms part of my Masters degree at the University of Newcastle.

My game, Howlyland is inserted below as a working Flash game that you can play online. I hope you like it and play through the 3 levels to the end.

Instructions below.

My top score is 6725. Can you beat it? :)

      • in the last level (this isnt a cheat… its a bug.) if you go right to the edge of the level, theres a wood platform, if you jump onto that, you can get onto the other side of the wall. then you fall into blankness(grey) and nothing happens…. you might want to fix this with a respawn and a messege saying.. CONGRATS, YOU FOUND THE SUICIDE SPOT p.s Dam! You died.

      • hey dan i love your game and by the way how did you make your game and website please tell me because i know a website but you have to pay $30 to keep it for a year on the internet. love you by

  1. awesome! good work! you should make a kinect-compatible version and market it as a martial arts and action movie-inspired fitness workout for animal lovers!

  2. berlin’s “take my breath away” was the perfect company while collecting those bone-loo-alike scoring trophy’s. the irony of a dog barking when i jumped each cat wasn’t lost on me either, but the critic’s choice and my def’ fav’ was when danger zone started after whipping that trash & treasure chest open an found 3 sets of magnum pi’s spare moustaches. a score of 6 thou’, and am only halfway into my 2nd bottle of gin. stay true and skid long, loud and gnarly programmer dude. batter up. now i want cake.
